Small Animal
Rabbit Awareness Week (22–26 June 2026) takes place this month and the theme is "Feeding Bunnies Better". Rabbit owners can register for reminders and receive a Rabbit Awareness Week information pack by visiting the Rabbit Awareness Action Group website.
The RSPCA also provide helpful advice on caring for rabbits, including housing, diet, companionship and general welfare.
With warmer weather arriving, it's important to protect pets from heat-related illnesses. The RSPCA provide useful advice on keeping dogs safe during hot weather, while the BVA has published additional guidance on caring for animals during periods of high temperatures.
Researchers at the Royal Veterinary College have launched a new biobank aimed at improving cancer care for pets. You can read more about this exciting development here.
The first ever National SQP Week takes place from 5–12 June 2026. The week celebrates the important role that Suitably Qualified Persons (SQPs), also known as Animal Medicines Advisors, play in safeguarding the health and wellbeing of livestock and pets across the UK. Equine
New guidance has been published ahead of the proposed UK-EU Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Agreement. Equine businesses and horse owners involved in international movement may wish to review the latest information. You can read the guidance here.
BEVA Congress 2026 will take place from 9–12 September at the International Convention Centre (ICC) Birmingham. Early bird discounts are currently available and you can book tickets and find out more here.
The annual BETA Feed & NOPS Conference takes place on 10–11 June at the East Midlands Airport Hotel. Further information can be found on the BETA website.
