Small Animal
National Pet Month (1 April – 5 May) celebrates the many benefits of pet ownership while promoting responsible pet care and welfare. You can find out more about National Pet Month here.
Easter Pet Safety: Vets are reminding owners to keep chocolate treats and hot cross buns safely out of reach of pets over the Easter period, as they can be dangerous if eaten. You can read the full advice from the British Veterinary Association here.
Spring is also a good time to review your pet’s health routine, including parasite prevention, exercise and grooming.

- The RSPCA also share useful seasonal advice for keeping pets safe and healthy.
Farm Animals
- A cattle vet and academic has been elected as the new RCVS Junior Vice-President for 2026–27. You can read more about the appointment here.
- Farmers are being encouraged to take part in a lambing survey to help measure the challenges currently faced by the sheep industry. The survey takes around 12 minutes to complete and closes on 15 June 2026. You can find out more and complete the survey here.
- With calving and lambing now well underway on many farms, NADIS provide some useful educational resources:
Equine
- Applications are now open for the BEVA Back in the Saddle 2026 programme, which supports equine vets returning to practice. You can find out more on the BEVA website.
- The BETA Safety Conference will take place on 21 April 2026 at Loughborough University and online. You can learn more about the conference here.
- BEVA is encouraging equine veterinary practices to sign up to its Safer Horse Rescues Scheme to support equine welfare. You can read more about the initiative here.
Equestrian Events – April 2026
- The Grand National Festival takes place at Aintree from 9–11 April. Find out more and book tickets here.
- The NAF Five Star Winter Dressage Championships will be held 15–19 April. Further details can be found here.
